Why Is it so Hard to Talk About Money with Friends?

Have you ever been at a point in your life that you needed help, but you wore a mask like everything was okay and didn’t ask for help? If you nodded your head in agreement, then this is for you. On this episode we have guests Stephanie BwaBwa, LaKesha Womack and Sonja Williams as they discuss why is it hard to have conversations about money with friends.

It’s always fun to put people together who may have some things in common but in other ways they don’t. This is a conversation you need to listen to and then share it with a friend (or group chat) so that it opens the door for honest conversation. The ladies were transparent about spaces in their lives that they had to navigate money hurdles.

Like as Black women, I think it's really hard for us to ask for help. So sometimes just like making it okay for you to be vulnerable and say, this is what I really need. And if somebody's like, oh no, I'm fine. Don't just leave it at I'm fine because that's our natural defense. - LaKesha Womack

From there the conversation moved to Josephine Wright, an elderly woman locked in a legal battle over her home. The 93-year-old South Carolinian who was being harassed by developers in an attempt to force her to sell her property. You will be surprised on their take about what should happen with the house and how can we really maintain generational wealth.

In this climate of strikes with writers, actors and AI creeping in to take jobs the strangers wrestled with the thoughts of do we avoid becoming business owners for gaining skills in trades?

It’s our hope that during the conversation it opens the door for you to talk to the people in your life about the things we really avoid discussing. While also giving us perspective on what other strangers maybe dealing with that we come into contact with day to day.
